To whom it may concern,
It is my pleasure to recommend Mel Luna for a position at your organization. In the fall of 2023, Mel came to my company, Tapeover Berlin (a company that specializes in mural installations, exhibitions, and artworks surrounding Tapeart), looking for internship opportunities. Impressed with their portfolio, CV, and in-person interview, we happily invited them onto the team. They worked with us from late September 2023 to February 2024, and during that time, Mel demonstrated determination, strong communication, leadership skills, and high levels of personal and professional competence.
During their internship, Mel was driven and extremely hardworking. Working closely with our permanent employees, and the three other interns at Tapeover Berlin, Mel quickly took a leadership role in organizing our "Caught on Tape, Sticky Icons" exhibition, held in-house at our Berlin studio in November 2023. From securing sponsors, like Posca, to coordinating with artists, to communicating with the internal team and the public through social media posts – Mel did it all, and they did it all well! They used appropriate tools, like Notion, Google Sheets, and Google Forms, to coordinate workflow and keep track of progress toward milestones and goals. We had weekly progress and planning meetings with Mel, and they were always prepared and excited to share their progress.
Anyone who has worked in event planning knows things don't always go as planned. When this happened, Mel handled the situation with kind, clear, concise communication. They were able to quickly and efficiently solve problems, while still making people feel seen and heard. They stayed late when needed and tried to prevent all of us from needing to stay late by being organized. The event was one of our best, not only from my perspective but also from the feedback we got from artists and the community. I would happily hire Mel to organize, plan, and execute another event for us.
In addition to our in-house exhibition, Mel worked hard to support our team working on corporate projects. Many of these projects were on-site installations and involved very tight timelines, often with corporate clients also on-site. Mel was on time, dependable, and ready and willing to help with whatever task we assigned. Mel stayed calm despite time pressures and made themselves available when we needed them. They took the initiative to proactively help and problem-solve when possible, but they asked specific questions when an issue was beyond their scope of knowledge.
In conclusion, I’m very glad we hired Mel as an intern. Even though we are sad to see Mel leave, we are excited to see where their career takes them. They have a lot of potential, and given their drive and determination, I’m confident they’ll succeed in whatever they choose to do. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions.
Best regards,
Robert König
